Teacher Spotlight: Bunkie Righter
Do you want to get to know your yoga teacher a little better? Lucky for you, we will be posting teacher spotlights to the blog and the social media so you can learn about your favorite teachers and why they love to teach yoga! Next up in the teacher spotlight is Bunkie!
Bunkie is a RYT-200 graduate of Shanti Garudasana Yoga Training School. She currently teaches Mindful Flow and Hot Yoga at Body Balance and loves the opportunity to facilitate classes inclusive of everyone. Her favorite pose is vrksasana, commonly known as tree pose!
Bunkie’s love of yoga began at the age of 26 when a friend introduced her to yoga practice in order to heal from an illness. Ever since then the connection of breath to movement has been her guide through life’s challenges and peak experiences! Bunkie is a believer that being present on your yoga mat in a community of others practicing can foster greater peace and wellbeing for all.
When not on her mat, Bunkie creates Malas as a meditation practice, loves to hike and loves to spend time with her large and loving family.
“I am fond of saying the practice of Yoga keeps me upright. I practice to center myself in order to be present and of service to others. Pranayama is my life force throughout the day and the Asanas are one of my best teachers for remaining present and balanced. The other limbs of yoga guide my behavior toward myself, others and connect me to the divine within me and all others. I practice to be mindful, to be kind, to BE in this wonder filled, terrible world.
“I teach because I desire with all of my being to provide a space where others can BE also. Where for a few moments of time those who are in the room can experience their connection to themselves. Where perhaps, just perhaps, they can breathe, move, be still and be present to their inner landscape. And they can grow and begin again each time held by the safe container we create together. It is such a privilege to be a yoga teacher and to offer that opportunity. I am so very sure deep down that all of this transformation is possible – because I have lived it-and I want to spend the rest of my life on this planet making this practice available to others.” -Bunkie
