Teacher Spotlight: Emma Sophie Moore
Do you want to get to know your yoga teacher a little better? Lucky for you, we will be posting teacher spotlights to the blog and the social media so you can learn about your favorite teachers and why they love to teach yoga! First up in the teacher spotlight is Emma Sophie!
Emma Sophie Moore is a recent graduate of the College of William & Mary (‘21) as well as the Shanti Garudasana yoga school (‘20). She has a B.S. in neuroscience and a minor in psychology. She currently teaches hot yoga at Body Balance and substitutes for any type of class at the studio, from gentle restorative flow to sunrise vinyasa! She is also the social media coordinator at Body Balance.
Emma Sophie is originally from Arlington, VA where her love for movement and art began. She grew up dancing at the Washington School of Ballet in D.C., playing and competing in violin, and was a professional musical theatre actress, singer, and dancer. When Emma Sophie went to college at William & Mary, she discovered her love for yoga at the campus recreation center and knew immediately that she wanted to start teaching.
Emma Sophie also loves cooking at home for her friends and family, hiking, reading, and playing outdoors. She plans to go to PT school someday soon to become a physical therapist.
“Yoga is one of the most fulfilling elements in my life, because there is always room to grow. There is always an asana practice that I can improve on, whether it’s in strength, flexibility, or balance — but I don’t necessarily feel the need to be perfect. When other aspects of my life are overwhelming, I come back to my mat and my mindfulness practice. I teach because I want others to experience the same benefits that yoga has given me: greater unity between mind and body, awareness of my body’s alignment and sensations, stronger mindfulness practice that allows me to appreciate the present, and a wonderful community that consistently challenges and supports one another.” -Emma Sophie
