Yoga means union—the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balance attitude in day-to- day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What exactly is yoga?
In layman’s terms, Yoga is a series of poses practiced in order to connect the mind, body, and spirit. Poses are performed in a variety of intensities and contexts; however, Yoga is more than a few twisted poses. A Yoga class is a place of peace and no inhibitions. Especially if you’re a beginner, we promise, everyone starts out feeling a little silly. We encourage you to embrace that energy and forge ahead in your practice! There are several forms of yoga. At BodyBalance, we primarily practice forms of Vinyasa and Hot Yoga.
2. I can’t even touch my toes. Is this still for me?
This is absolutely for you—especially if you’d like to be able to touch your toes! You’re not the first, nor will you be the last new yogi with this concern. (Some of us weren’t able to touch our toes in the beginning either.) Yes, Yoga focuses on growing flexibility and strength, but both our classes and teachers will meet you where you are in your practice.
3. This is my first class, what should I take?
In order to take any of the “Hot” classes, you must first feel comfortable in the original Vinyasa and Yoga classes. We also recommend trying out our “Not So Hot Yoga” class, which is specifically designed as an introduction to Hot Yoga. Depending on your fitness level, Gentle Yoga would be a great place to start. Feel free to give us a call and describe your experience and needs. We’d be happy to place you in the appropriate class!
4. What do I need to bring to class?
You are welcome to bring your own towel, blocks, and straps; however, all are provided for free by BodyBalance. You may rent a mat from the front desk for $5.00. We also strongly recommend that you bring a water bottle (only water is the only drink permitted in our studios).
5. Do you have showers?
Yes. We have both men’s and women’s locker rooms. Each is equipped with private showers, sinks, mirrors, bathrooms, fresh towels, and cubbies.
6. Should I eat first?
You should eat something two hours before class. Do not eat immediately before.
7. What should I wear?
Wear comfortable and fitted exercise clothes that breathe well. (We ask for relatively fitted clothing so that our instructors are able to see and correct poses effectively.)
8. May I ask questions during class?
Of course. But, we ask that you do so subtly and try not to disrupt the classroom.
9. Is yoga religious?
Yoga is spiritual. However, Yoga is more of a lifestyle than a spirituality. It’s a physical practice that encourages a healthful, happy, and peaceful way of life.
